On 29th of May 2020 AB Bank Zambia launched its own mobile wallet, eTumba. eTumba offers real-time banking and combines the user-friendliness and convenience of a mobile wallet with the security and reliability of a bank account. It offers easy and instant self-registration via USSD or Android app.

On the occasion of the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of AB Bank, Mr. Cosmin Olteanu, stated: “The launch of eTumba is a landmark moment for AB Bank Zambia. Our mission of financial inclusion is not anymore limited by our branch network. Anybody in Zambia can now dial *888# and open an account – instantly, anywhere, anytime and at no cost. I would like to express my appreciation for the visionary approach of the Bank of Zambia in promoting inter-connectivity and making financial inclusion a core policy component. We are grateful for the strong support received from the Mastercard Foundation throughout the course of this project and are looking forward to further enhance our cooperation going forward. “

eTumba Manager, Mr. Marcus Hannappel, added: ”AB Bank is the first bank in Zambia to go live with incoming and outgoing transactions on the National Financial Switch phase II (NFS), a platform promoted by the Bank of Zambia to facilitate interoperability between banks and mobile money providers. eTumba customers can now deposit and withdraw funds at more than 14,000 Kazang agents across Zambia.
